Project Description
The East Tie-In Structure consisted of 300 ft span, 3500 ton steel truss for the two-level ten lane bridge detour for the Bay Bridge. This truss was erected 150 ft above ground on temporary towers and slid laterally into final position over one long weekend, thus creating a detour to allow for the construction of the new Bay Bridge. SPS Engineers, as part of TYLin/Moffatt Nichol JV, designed the temporary towers and East Tie-In truss which had different support conditions during erection and final set down. The firm also coordinated with Caltrans, design team, Contractor, and roll-out subcontractor for the design of roll-out roll-in operation.
